This program includes a combination of 505 didactic hours, 272 clinical hours, and 480 internship hours of rigorous paramedical training necessary to prepare for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic Exam and to work toward becoming a licensed paramedic. Didactic hours take place in the classroom and in various training facilities and labs. Topics include preparatory, trauma, medical emergencies, pediatrics, OB-GYN and behavioral. Clinical training entails 12-hour student rotations through St. Mary’s, Renown Medical Center and various local clinics. In the internship portion of the program, students are placed with preceptors and work in phases toward becoming paramedics. Students are issued provisional licenses by the State of Nevada in this portion of the program, so that they may act under the scope of a licensed paramedic responding to emergency calls in the field.
When successfully completed in conjunction with successful completion of the 42-hour Paramedic Professional/Managerial Development courses, participants will earn the Paramedical Studies Program Certificate from Extended Studies.
