In a world of complexity, delivering project objectives on time and within budget is a capability many organizations are investing in, increasing the need for skilled and experienced project managers. This 18-hour practical course will cover project management essentials to set new and experienced project managers up for success! Students will learn and apply concepts, tools and techniques associated with the project management process groups, from initiation through project closeout. This course also will contain an introduction to the 10 project management knowledge areas: Integration Management, Scope Management, Schedule Management, Cost Management, Quality Management, Resource Management, Communication Management, Risk Management, Procurement Management and Stakeholder Management. Students also will participate in activities associated with developing key deliverables, such as the Project Charter and Project Management Plan. This course is a recommended prerequisite for the other courses in the Project Management Essentials Certificate Program.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the necessity of having an actively engaged project sponsor
- Understand the role of a project manager and essential project management skills
- Comprehend the importance of the “Triple Constraint” when managing projects: time, scope and cost
- Apply concepts, tools and techniques related to initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing a project
This course may be taken independently or combined with other required courses to earn the Project Management Essentials Certificate. It may instead be applied toward the elective requirements of a 10-course certificate in Human Resources Management or Supervisory Management offered through Extended Studies if not applied toward the completion requirements of the Project Management Essentials Certificate.
